John Aldredge Christie Lecture
Each year the Program in American Culture presents the John Aldredge Christie lecture, a celebration of the legacy of John Christie's contribution to the College and Helen Lockwood's bequest to the College to establish a multidisciplinary program "to pioneer in the reinterpretation and deepening of a liberal education."

John Christie lecturer for 2002-2003
Professor Richard Slotkin, Olin Professor of English at Wesleyan University. Professor Slotkin will be speaking about his research on guns and why Americans love them.
John Christie lecturer for 2001-2002
Gary Okihiro, Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and Director of Columbia's Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race and the Asian-American Studies Program. The title of Professor Okihiro's lecture was "Toward a Pacific Civilization."
John Christie lecturer for 2000-2001
David Lowenthal, Professor Emeritus of geography and honorary fellow at University College London. Professor Lowenthal's lecture was entitled "Seen from the Other Shore: English and American Landscape Visions."

The First Annual New York City Extravaganza
This guided tour, led by Big Onion Walking Tours, was titled The Ethnic Colony, and involved "A walking tour exploring the multi-faceted ethnic history of New York City prior to 1800the original American 'Melting pot'. The group traveled the streets of Lower Manhattan visiting the sites of the first synagogue, Lovelace Tavern, the home of Captain Kidd, and the site of the 1712 African Uprising." The tour was followed by lunch.

Poughkeepsie Tour
Sponsored by the American Culture Program, this exciting event consisted of a tour of historic and contemporary Poughkeepsie led by the Director of the department, Geography Professor Harvey Flad, and History Professor Emeritus Clyde Griffen. Followed by lunch at Andy's Restaurant.
